Many families are unaware that children with disabilities can qualify to keep Medicaid benefits through Health First Colorado's Medicaid Buy-In program. Even if families exceed the income limit for regular Medicaid, they still have the option to pay a monthly premium to continue receiving Medicaid benefits.
You simply fill out a disability determination application and submit it to the Department of Human Services. If approved, you can pay a monthly premium for your children to receive Medicaid benefits. This will enable you to continue receiving services such as ABA, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and more!
We have put together some helpful information that can help you apply for this. There can easily be a three—to four-month waitlist to get your application approved. If you have already applied for Supplemental Security Income through the Social Security Office, requesting a determination letter could help speed up the approval process for Medicaid. If you have not yet applied for SSI, please visit the Financial option under resources on this website.
